Popular baguette stalls

DA NANG Today
Published: December 29, 2016

Baguettes, with their various fillings, are some of Viet Nam’s most popular street food items.  There are many different kinds of baguettes including chicken, roasted and grilled pork, omelette, grilled pork pate, and ham.  All across the country, street stalls can be found, each selling their own particular speciality.

Listed below are some of the most popular baguette stalls in Da Nang.

Mrs Lan’s baguette stall

62 Trung Nu Vuong, Hai Chau District

Opening times: 4.30pm to 11.00pm daily

Thanks to Mrs Lan’s special ingredients, this stall is always crowded with buyers from opening to closing time.  Her baguettes are filled with pate - ‘cha heo’ (grilled pork pate) and ‘cha bo’ (grilled beef pate) – then pieces of cold meat, mayonnaise made from raw eggs, basil, cilantro, thinly-sliced cucumber and green chilli.

Mr Ty’s baguette stall

272 Hung Vuong, Hai Chau District

Opening times: 6.00pm to 11.00pm daily

This stall is one of the oldest and most popular in the city.  The baguettes from here are quite unique because they don’t contain any vegetables or herbs.  They contain only ‘cha heo, ‘cha bo’, crushed red pepper flakes, and a little salt and pepper.  This type of baguette is perfect for lovers of fresh ‘cha’ and spiciness.

Quynh Anh baguette stall

132 Phan Chau Trinh, Hai Chau District

Opening times: 6.00am to 10.00pm daily

Although this stall opens later than others in the city, its baguettes are very popular with locals because of their special flavour.  The baguettes are filled with such ingredients as thinly-sliced carrots, unripe papaya and cucumber, butter, pate, chilli sauce, and various meats.

Tu Hai baguette stall

435 Nui Thanh, Hai Chau District

Opening times: 8.00am to 9.00am and 2.00pm to 10.00pm daily

Despite its origins in Gia Lai Province’s Pleiku City, the Tu Hai baguette has become very popular with Da Nang’s residents because of its special ingredients and its amazing buttery flavour.

This type of baguette contains butter, pate, ham, chilli sauce, scallion, and thinly-sliced, unripe papaya.  After the ingredients are put into the baguette, the seller will cook the bread in liquid butter in order to make it more sweet-smelling and crisp.  It tastes best when it is still hot.

De Nhat baguette stall

230 Le Duan, Hai Chau District

Opening times: 6.00am to 9.00pm daily

Over the 3 years since opening in Da Nang, the De Nhat baguette stall has won the trust of local people.  It sells around 1,000 baguettes every day, and the triangular bread is filled with grilled pork, fresh cucumber and herbs, and a little soya sauce.

Another stall of De Nhat baguette is located at 39 Phan Dinh Phung in Hai Chau District

Mrs Chi’s ‘banh my ga’ stall

At the intersection of Phan Dinh Phung and Phan Chau Trinh

Opening times: 7.00am to noon and 4.00pm to 9.00pm

Unlike a normal baguette, the ‘banh my ga’ (small bread) is rounded in shape and filled with pulled chicken, thinly-sliced carrot, unripe papaya, mayonnaise made of raw eggs, pate, and chilli sauce.  When eating this crispy, hot bread roll, you can enjoy the sweet and salty taste of the meat, the sourness of the carrot and unripe papaya, the spiciness of the chilli sauce, and the fattiness of the butter.
