Farmers ramp up production for Tet
On a cultivated area of approximately 1,000m², Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dieu Hien and her family members are planting various vegetables. According to Mrs. Hien, this a crop is expected to be harvested by the end of the year to supply the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival.
To meet market demands during the year-end and Lunar New Year of 2025, farmers in vegetable-growing areas across Da Nang have begun sowing, planting, and nurturing various vegetables. This is considered the main and most important harvest of the year.
Following the year-end rains, the atmosphere at the La Huong safe vegetable area in Hoa Tho Dong Ward, Cam Le District, has become bustling with farming activities. Farmers are diligently preparing vegetables for the busy Tet market. Thus, everyone is actively tending to their cultivated areas with the hope of a bountiful harvest and favourable market prices.

Nguyen Thi Dieu Hien and her family, cultivating a plot of about 1,000m², are meticulously planting leafy greens like lettuce and sweet mustard. These short-term vegetables, with a growth period of 20-25 days, are expected to be ready by the year’s end. Additionally, the family is cultivating crops such as garland chrysanthemum and various spices to meet Tet demands.
"Lunar New Year is the peak vegetable consumption period, so we pay extra attention to our crops. We hope for stable weather to ensure a good harvest and steady prices, benefiting farmers" shared Ms Hien.
At the La Huong safe vegetable area, farmers are also planting longer-term crops like cauliflower, beans, and tomatoes to supply the Tet market. However, early-season rains have caused concerns about potential delays in planting schedules, which could affect yields and profits.

According to Mr Tran Van Hoang, Director of the La Huong Safe Vegetable Cooperative, proper timing is crucial for long-term vegetables intended for Tet. Delays can significantly impact productivity and prices. Farmers are advised to monitor weather conditions closely to ensure suitable planting times. In Tuy Loan, a 6-hectare safe vegetable area in Hoa Phong Commune, Hoa Vang District, 40 households are actively preparing for the season. The cooperative here has also introduced hydroponic and greenhouse-grown crops to guarantee supply for supermarkets and markets across the city.

Nguyen Van Tan, Director of Tuy Loan Safe Vegetable Production and Consumption Cooperative, remarked "Most households have started planting for the winter-spring season, with regular intercropping of short-term vegetables and timely planting of longer-term crops. Efforts are also being made to clear canals to support farming operations. With stable weather conditions, we hope farmers will achieve satisfactory yields and profits." From cultivating seedlings indoors to introducing hydroponic methods, local cooperatives and farmers are striving to ensure a plentiful and diverse supply of fresh produce for the upcoming festive season.
