To enhance efforts against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, the Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has implemented a range of practical measures to ensure fishing vessels comply strictly with regulations when entering and exiting ports.

This is among the critical recommendations from the European Commission (EC) to lift the "yellow card" on seafood.

According to the Fisheries Sub-Department, the city currently has 1,545 fishing vessels with a maximum length of 6 metres or more, including 716 for nearshore fishing, 227 for inshore fishing, and 602 for offshore fishing. However, 126 of these vessels are deemed unfit for fishing activities.

These include “3 no” vessels-those that lack registration, inspection, or fishing permits-as well as vessels with overdue inspections or without valid fishing permits.

To enhance the monitoring of fishing vessel activities, seafood verification, disaster prevention, dispute resolution at sea, and the prevention of violations in foreign waters, the city has delegated the management, utilisation, and processing of fishing vessel surveillance data to various units. These include the Fisheries Sub-Department, the Management Board of the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port, the city’s Border Guard Force, the Fisheries Control Representative Office, and the Intelligent Operation Centre (IOC). Together, they work collaboratively to monitor the activities of Da Nang's fishing vessels 24/7.

The control of fishing boats and vessels operating in offshore areas is carried out with close coordination among these forces.

At the Tho Quang Fishing Port and Wharf, vessel inspection is carried out in accordance with the Fisheries Department's guidelines. All vessels entering or leaving the port are required to report via the eCDT VN application.

The Management Board of Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port strictly oversees the reception, monitoring, and updating of vessel information, ensuring 100% of port activities are recorded and promptly reported to the Fisheries Control Representative Office for further handling of any violations.

The port’s management team also actively assists fishermen in using the eCDT VN application for reporting procedures.
