Visitors to the museum will approach a photo wall with 76 photos, each representing a theme displayed inside the museum, and watch a 3-minute short film introducing the natural beauty of Da Nang. |
Located at 42-44 Bach Dang Street and 31 Tran Phu Street in Hai Chau District, the museum occupies a 125-year-old building that was previously the Da Nang Hall, a structure built during the French colonial period.
The building has undergone a comprehensive restoration and expansion, now spanning over 8,600 square meters with a new block on Tran Phu Street and a newly-renovated block on Bach Dang Street.
The restoration of the museum not only preserves the ancient architecture but also adds modern exhibition spaces, helping to enhance the visitor experience.
The museum is currently showcasing nearly 3,000 artifacts and documents selected from a total of 27,000 items, vividly reflecting the history, culture and people of Da Nang through each period.
Notably, the exhibit combines traditional display techniques with modern projection technology, including 3D mapping films, documentary videos, and slide shows which bring the past to life in an immersive way.
Visitors to the museum will learn about nine major themes on display: photo wall about the overview of Da Nang; nature and people of Da Nang; history of Da Nang; the city’s struggle to protect national independence; war relics; Da Nang integration and development; cultural diversity; Da Nang City Hall; and collections of antiques of Da Nang Museum.
Visiting the museum on the first day of opening, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh, residing in Hai Chau Ward, Hai Chau District, expressed “I have been to many museums in other localities, but the Da Nang Museum really surprised me. I like the way the museum uses technology to recreate history, making the stories more vivid. I am very touched to see the history of the city preserved and introduced in such a modern way. I hope this place will become a familiar address for people and tourists to learn about the history of Da Nang”.
Similarly, Ms. Ro Cham Nhi, a student majoring in Nursing at the Dong A University, said that the use of modern technology helped historical stories become closer and more accessible, as well as makes us appreciate what previous generations sacrificed to have peace today.
“I am very impressed with the space of the museum. The layout is arranged according to the route, whilst the story is related to the history and culture of Da Nang people from prehistoric times to the present. If anyone loves the history of their homeland, this is an impressive destination not to be missed,” Ms. Nhi shared.
The museum is currently open from Tuesday to Sunday every week from 8:00 am - 11:00 am, and 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm daily. The entrance is located at 31 Tran Phu. The museum offers free admission to visitors until the end of 2025.
