The World Cities Summit 2014 provides a platform for government, business and international organisations to share insights and solutions and discuss measures to address liveable and sustainable city challenges as well as forge high-level partnerships.

On June 1, the mayors and city leaders discussed the importance of good governance and community engagement, and how smart technologies could contribute to urban development. They also agreed that it is most important to engage their community and put people at the centre of policy goals.

The participating delegates also pledged their support for the United Nations Open Working Group's Sustainable Development Goal, which focus the attention and resources of national agencies, local governments, the private sector and civil society towards managing urban challenges and creating more liveable and sustainable cities.

This year, the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize was awarded to Suzhou city of China for its remarkable transformation, especially during the past two decades.

Next year’s World Cities Summit will be held in New York City, USA.
