Indonesia fires minister for dual citizenship

Indonesian President Joko Widodo on August 15 dismissed a minister from his position for holding dual citizenship.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Archandra Tahar was accused of holding both Indonesian and the US citizenship in violation of the Southeast Asian country’s law.
Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta, Secretary of State Pratikno said responding to public questions regarding the citizenship status of Minister Archandra and after collecting information from sources, the President decided to fire Archandra Tahar.
President Widodo appointed Coordinating Minister for Maritime Luhut Pandjaitan as acting energy and mineral resources minister until a new minister is assigned.
