There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries from the blaze that started in a room in Yangon General Hospital’s cancer department, rescuers said.
Smoke rose from the colonial-era building in the hospital. Emergency staff swiftly removed medical equipment and patients from the building before a power cut.
Rescuers said about 60 patients were evacuated on stretchers and in wheelchairs.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
