Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is confident that Malaysia is to achieve herd immunity on schedule as projected by the National Recovery Plan following the increase in the supply of COVID-19 vaccines.

The Malaysian government would work harder to ensure that the supplies arrive in the country on schedule, he told reporters after visiting the vaccination centre (PPV) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on June 20.

He called on people to register for vaccination via MySejahtera app.

The PM later expressed his appreciation to frontliners and volunteers for helping smoothen the vaccination process at the PPV.

The number of volunteers needed remains high, he continued, so if more can come forward and offer to be volunteers, things can be simplified to speed up the vaccination process.

On February 24, Malaysia began the three-phase National Immunisation Programme (NIP) which is scheduled to end in February next year. Its goal is to inoculate 80 percent of the Malaysian population by the end of this year to achieve herd immunity.

About 2.8 million Malaysians have received at least one shot of COVID-19 vaccine so far.
