Chairman Tho affirmed that the Party, authorities, and people of Da Nang have always acknowledged their great service and sacrifices in the struggle for national independence.  He hoped that they would continue encouraging their descendants to uphold traditional patriotism and make even greater efforts for the progress of the city.

Chairman Tho, along with leaders of the municipal Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, then offered incense and laid wreaths at the martyrs’ cemeteries in Hoa Xuan, Hoa Quy and Hoa Hai wards.

On the same day, municipal PC Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh paid visits to 89-year-old Vietnamese heroic mother Vo Thi Thong and 78-year-old war invalid Huynh Thi Xinh, both in Ngu Hanh Son District’s My An Ward.  Mr Minh wished them good heath and encouraged them to continue to be good examples for their descendants.

Also on Tuesday, Vice Chairman Minh visited elderly people living at Quang Nam Province’s care centre for those who had made great contributions to the nation’s revolutionary cause.

He wished them all good health and expressed his deep gratitude to the province’s war invalids and families of martyrs for their great sacrifices for the reunification of the country.

The provincial centre is now providing care for 8 war invalids and 27 relatives of those who made great contributions to the nation’s revolutionary cause.

Over recent years, the Da Nang authorities have issued numerous preferential policies to help local social policy beneficiaries.

In particular, from 2009, a monthly allowance of 300,000 VND was given to each poor local social policy beneficiary suffering from a life-threating disease.  In September 2016, that allowance was increased to 500,000 VND.  To date, 1,372 beneficiaries have benefited from these allowances, totalling over 8 billion VND per year.

Starting in 2010, the city authorities provided poor local social policy beneficiaries with a monthly allowance of 100,000 VND each, which was raised to 200,000 VND per person in January 2016.

In addition, the focus has been on appealing for public investment into healthcare programmes, offering preferential loans, creating job opportunities, and providing a means of livelihood for the such beneficiaries.

Over the past 2 decades, over 520 billion VND has gone to help over 25,600 social policy families across the city to build new houses or repair their downgraded ones.  In addition, over 800 land lots and 160 apartment houses have been given to the families facing housing difficulties.
