Over the past year, Da Nang saw a large number of local shining examples who were willing to return lost property to their owners.

Ms Tran Thi Anh, a cashier at the Son Tra District Power Branch of the city’s Power Company, was a typical example.

On 24 February, Ms Anh was on her way home from work when it suddenly started raining.  She pulled over to the side of the road, and noticed a nylon bag which had been dropped in the street.  It contained 1 billion VND in cash (worth over 40,000 USD).  Several minutes later, Ms Anh saw a worried woman looking for something. The woman said that her name was Nguyen Thi Thanh Thu, she was from Ha Noi, and she was looking a nylon bag which contained 1 billion VND in cash.  She added that the money was to be used to buy a residential land lot in the city.  Ms Anh immediately returned the bag and its contents to the lady without demand a reward.

In March, the kind-hearted woman received a Certificate of Merit and a reward from the leader of the Da Nang Power Company for her good deed.

She said “I always educate my children to live honestly, and my action of returning money to its owner is the best way I execute my teachings.  I believe that all Da Nang’s residents would act like me when they were placed in such situation”.

Last year, Mr Phan Thanh Trinh from the Security Management Team of the city’s Tourism Beaches returned lost properties to their owners for 3 times.  The owners consisted of an English tourist who dropped his bag containing 1,000 HK$ and 40£, and a Chinese visitor who lost his mobile phone.  The remaining one was Da Nang’s senior citizen who dropped 2 million VND in cash.

At 9.45pm on 21 November, Mr Luong took a local woman from 48 Yen Bai to the Ruman Bistro at the intersection of Bach Dang and Nguyen Du streets.

After dropping the passenger at the Bistro, Mr Luong found a plastic bag in his taxi which contained 200 million VND in cash.  He immediately contacted his passenger, and returned the missing property to her on the same day.

The recipient sincerely thanked Mr Luong for his good deed, and expressed her deep gratitude to him as he returned the large amount to its owner.

He said "This is the 3rd time I have returned lost properties to their owners.  I am very happy since my good deeds make other people happy".

These shining examples are considered to be tourism ambassadors for the city in advertising its beautiful image to domestic and international visitors.
