In the first half of the year, around 18,500 units of blood were collected from a total of over 21,000 people across Da Nang.

So far this year, a total of 73 blood donation campaigns have been hosted by municipal Youth Union, the Youth Federation, the Red Cross Society, the Trade Union, and the district-level mobilisation boards of voluntary blood donation.

The city now has a total of 31 blood donation clubs, teams and family clubs with a total of more than 2,600 members.

Amongst, there are 17 reserve blood donation teams with a total of over 2,300 members, 8 other clubs with 175 members in total, a special 65-member group who donate the rare Rh blood type, and 5 family clubs. Notably, 48 families have donated blood many times.

The impressive figures were released at a meeting on Saturday to review the performance of the voluntary blood donation campaigns in the city in the first half of 2018.

In the remaining months of the year, focus will be on widely publicising blood donation campaigns amongst local residents. Importance will be attached to encouraging more people to donate blood in order to ensure sufficient blood supplies for emergency cases and medical treatment which are expected to need over 17,500 blood units.

Also at the review meeting, 7 groups and 45 individuals were honoured in recognition of their active involvement in blood donation campaigns last year.
