Handicraft businesses facing difficulties
In recent years, handicraft products made by businesses in Da Nang have been exported to foreign markets, especially to European countries and the USA.
However, these businesses are now facing some difficulties with the design of their products and this, together with a shortage of capital for developing their infrastructures, has resulted in a struggle to seek consumer markets in foreign countries.
In addition, due to the fierce competition from Chinese handicraft businesses, local exporters have to use the services of intermediary firms to help them find buyers in the foreign markets. As a result, the profits generated from exports are too low to invest back into new orders.

According to some economic experts, the main reasons for this are the lack of diversification in their product designs and a shortage of eye-catching items.
Some foreign partners have suggested that local businesses should pay more attention to making appropriate high-quality products instead of mass market items. They have explained that this would help local businesses to avoid the harsh competition from Chinese products and allow them to dominate the high-end of the foreign markets.
Meanwhile, local businesses are now very much in need of useful information about the foreign markets, the technical barriers to foreign traders and other policies in order to help them to gain a firm foothold in the tough competition current in international markets.
