Severe shortage of software testers in the city

Software testing, which is the process of executing a programme or application with the intention of finding software bugs, has thrived in Da Nang for 10 years, and it offers many job opportunities to local IT students after graduation.

However, according to the local information technology (IT) companies, the quality and quantity of human resources working for the local software testing sector is still low.

FPT Software Da Nang now has between 450 and 500 employees involved in software technologies, about half of whom are software testers.  Despite this, the company is still facing a severe shortage of testers to deploy in its cooperation projects with domestic and foreign partners in the software industry.

In reality, many IT students at local universities and colleges are not fully aware of the vital role of testing in ensuring the good quality of software.  Therefore, the majority of them decide to study computer programming instead.

There are only about 1,000 IT graduates from local universities and colleges each year, and this figure does not meet the increasing demand for software testers from local IT companies.

The city’s branches of LogiGear and Passerelles Numériques Vietnam (PNV) recently jointly launched a programme, entitled LogiGear Certified Test Professional, to introduce the subject of software testing to local final-year IT students.  This offers the opportunity for the students to experience a new professional learning environment and gain valuable knowledge about this subject in preparation for seeking jobs after graduation.
