Appealing for investment into waterway transport projects

According to a spokesperson for the Da Nang Department of Transport, there are now 20 eligible tourist boats operating on the Han River-Tran Thi Ly Bridge route.

From now until 2025, Da Nang is focusing on appealing for domestic and foreign investment into over 20 projects on developing inland waterway transportation services and building tourist boat piers.

The intention is to tap fully the city’s potential of all 8 inland waterway transportation routes on the Han River for developing community-based eco-tourism, especially waterway tourism.

In particular, urgent investment is needed in developing a marina at the former site of the Han River Port, a tourist boat pier on the northern side of the Nam O Bridge, and a tourist wharf on the Son Tra Peninsula.

In addition, following recent instructions from the Da Nang People’s Committee, from 1 January 2019 onwards, under 50-seater tourist boats which are equipped with an automatic identification system (AIS) will be banned from operating on the Han River-Tran Thi Ly Bridge route. They will only be allowed to operate on the remaining 7 inland waterway transportation routes.
