During his recent interview with DA NANG Newspaper, Director of the municipal Department of Planning and Investment Tran Phuoc Son revealed some information on this large-scale important project.

The city is expected to be in need of the daily supply of 444.324m3 of water by 2020, and this figure is likely to climb to 801.859m3 by 2030.

Meanwhile, in reality, the city’s tap water supply now only stands about 210,000m3 per day. Hence, the city will face a shortage of up to 234.324m3 of water per day in 2020, and 591,859m3 in 2030.

Therefore, it is an urgent need to deploy the Hoa Lien Water Plant in a bid to ensure the sufficient water supply for the daily lives, and the agricultural and industrial production activities, thereby helping to securing the city’s socio-economic progress.

The Hoa Lien Water Plant project is scheduled to be deployed from 2019 until 2021 at a total cost of 1,170 billion VND funded by the city budget. The capital allocation for the project is as part of the city’s medium- term investment plan for the 2016 – 2020 period.

The 1st stage of the project, with a daily capacity of 120,000m3 of water is scheduled to be completed by late 2020, whilst the figure will increase to 240,000m3 of water in the 2nd stage.

The municipal Management Board of Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Projects will be in charge of implementing this project.

The project will feature a water treatment plant, water pipeline system, a water dam and water pumping station.

The 1,400mm-diameter water pipeline made of steel, measuring 10.7km in length, will be placed underground along the DT 600 Street.

Concerned units have unanimously agreed on the construction of a water dam along a section of the Cu De River which runs through the Nam My Village in suburban Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Bac Commune, about 4 km away from the Pho Nam cable bridge.

Once it is put into operation, the dam can help to ensure sufficient water sources for the full operation of the water plant.

Particularly, the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed that consultancy units for the project should survey and further study the construction of a number of small-scale dams at relatively low costs at streams and branches of the Bac and Nam tributaries of the Cu De River to accumulate even more water.
