Exceptionally cold weather sweeping through Da Nang has caused a sharp increase in the shopping demand for heating equipment, and winter clothing and accessories.

The past week has seen the mercury dip to 15-16 degrees Celsius, resulting in the stockouts of heating equipment and crowds at winter clothing stores across the city.

Heating equipment out of stock

Recorded in such large electronics supermarkets as Dien May Xanh, Dien May Cho Lon, Viettronimex and Nguyen Kim, some heating equipment, including light and fan heaters, and heated blankets and mattresses, are sold out.

Since the weather suddenly turned cold in early January, Mr Nguyen Duc Loc, a resident of Thanh Khe District, has set out to get a fan heater- but it wouldn't be an easy search.

He soon found that this winter's relentless cold weather has left many electronics stores in Da Nang sold out of electric heaters.

Mrs Thai Thi Bich Thuy, Director of the Da Nang Viettronimex Electronic Supermarket, said despite a hike in the demand for electric heaters, manufacturers are now set to produce fewer than previous years due to the severe impact of the global Covid-19 crisis. In addition, heating equipment manufacturers are prioritising providing a large supply for Northern Viet Nam which is suffering from freezing temperatures in harsh winter and sawing a robust demand in such products.

Likewise, heating equipment on sale at stores on Ly Thai To, Ong Ich Khiem and Hung Vuong are also out of stock.

Meanwhile, such heating equipment is now available at many online stores, or e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada and Tiki.

Rise in demand for winter wear products

A suddenly sharp decline in temperatures in the Northern and Central Viet Nam has propelled the demand for winter wears, resulting in crowds at winter clothing stores across Da Nang.

Over recent days, such famous fashion shops as H&M, Kisetsu and Tokyo Life, have been crowded with shoppers after having offering greal deals on winter wears: thermostats, sweaters, life jackets, wool pants and more.

Also, bustling shopping atmosphere has been recorded on specialised streets selling fashion products such as Le Duan, Phan Chau Trinh and Trieu Nu Vuong.

Apart from winter clothes, such winter items as sports shoes, wool hats and socks, scarves and gloves are best sellers.

Such stores specialising in winter accessories as Hoa Giao and Loi Bi on Le Duan Street have seen a mass influx of people going shopping both at noons and in evenings.

In particular, scarves are being sold at between 80,000 VND and 250,000 VND each, depending on their types of fabric. The prices of wool hats are ranging from 70,000 VND to 200,000 VND each.
