As per Vietnamese tradition, the 10th day of the Lunar New Year, is the day when the God of Wealth returns to heaven. Therefore, Vietnamese people have a tradition of buying gold on that day to hope for good luck and prosperity throughout the year.

A Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ) gold shop at 143 Nguyen Van Linh opened its door earlier than normal days at 6.00am on Sunday.

To meet the expected spike in demand, the PNJ jewellery company has stocked up on various kinds of gold products, including traditional figurines of the God of Wealth inscribed with the words of Phuc (Happiness), Loc (Prosperity), Tai (Wealth), and Tho (Longevity).

Besides, since this is the lunar Year of the Buffalo, the buffalo is also widely featured on gold products.

Le Tri Thong, CEO of PNJ, said the company has been preparing for this day since the middle of last year. “This year, besides our traditional products, we also have modern designs using our latest technologies to offer customers more choices.”

With gold prices much higher than in previous years, the company has products in a wider price range than last year for affordability, he said.

It is known that in Central Viet Nam, PNJ runs 37 shops, of which 15 are currently in Da Nang.

Other jewellery companies like DOJI, Sacombank Jewelry Company (Sacombank -SBJ), Phu Quy Gold, and Sai Gon Jewelry Company Limited (SJC) have also launched new products.
