Farm tourism is the business of attracting visitors to farm areas generally for educational and recreational purposes while encouraging economic activities that can provide both the farm and community additional income.

In recent years, this type of tourism in Da Nang has been very attractive to visitors from both home and overseas and it has brought economic benefits to Da Nang farmers. Additionally, it creates additional output for products and enriches environmentally-friendly tourism products in the city.

The farms have become inviting places for visitors who love nature and enjoying a peaceful atmosphere in rural areas, as well as love learning about the agricultural production process.

The case of the fish farm, owned by the married couple of Mr Tran Hong Quang and Ms Tran Thi Truc in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Khuong Commune, is a prime example of a highly-successful business transformation, where a fish farm was turned into a thriving tourism and a recreation area.

The couple’s fish farm covers more than 15,000m2. Mr Quang and his wife, who have extensive experience in breeding freshwater fish, have long been aware of the difficulties faced by the fish farming industry and realise the growing potential for tourism in the area, in large, so they decided to develop a new business strategy.

In early 2020, the couple spent more than 500 million VND on building two large fish ponds for promoting the development of farm tourism.

Mr Quang said that his farm attracted a quite large number of visitors, especially on weekends, who love enjoying the fresh air, experiencing fun fishing activities, and taking souvenir photos in the wild hilly landscape.

He added the fishing service is being offered at 20,000 VND per person. Visitors can buy fish they catch between 50,000VND and 110,000 VND per kg depending on the types of fish. In addition, there are siting areas where food lovers can enjoy the taste of numerous dishes made from fish.

The farmer noted he can earn nearly 500 million VND in profits per year. He plans to place stone tables and chairs surrounding the lake shore so that visitors can both fish and enjoy coffee, fruits and local specialties.

Of special note, Mr Quang and his wife are always willing to exchange their experience in breeding freshwater fish, as well as to offer preferential loans to those in need. Every year, they give active financial support to 2 to 4 poor families in the locality.

Over recent years, the family of Mr Quang has been honoured with the “Excellent Farmers in Production and Doing Business” title for his application of technical advances to animal husbandry practices, and his commitment to his community.
