The proportion of industry and trade accounts for 28 - 30% of the city’s total GRDP (gross regional domestic product). Through the assessment of the top 100 corporate taxpayers in Da Nang over the past four years, on average, the contribution by 45% of the industrial and trade businesses made up for 63% of the city’s budget collection each year.
Also over the five-year reviewed period, the total retail sales of goods recorded a year-on-year increase of 10.6% on average.
‘Made-in-Da Nang’ exports made their presence in about 120 worldwide countries and territories.
The encouraging figures were released by Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade Le Thi Kim Phuong during a recent meeting with municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang, and Party Committee Deputy Secretary cum People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh, and other municipal administration officials.
Delivering his instructions at the event, Chairman Chinh suggested the municipal Department of Industry and Trade focus on mapping out the development of industrial zones and clusters towards the sustainable direction, and forming locally-made typical products and building high-class commercial infrastructure.
Echoing Chairman Chinh’s view, Secretary Quang asked Da Nang industry and trade sector to give suggestions to the city leaders on the development of local supporting industries and some important projects. Notable amongst them are the use of new and renewable energy by 2025, with a vision to 2035, and the promotion of the public use of electric vehicles (EVs) and the construction of EV parking/ charging stations across the city in the coming time.
At the same time, plans should be made to speed up the construction progress of industrial zones and clusters, Hoa Phuoc wholesale market, and ensure the operation of Han and Con markets boasting modern and civilised trading activities.
Also, logistics development solutions and strategies for stepping up the formation of more night markets and the network of petrol stations should be taken into consideration.
The city Party chief remarked that in terms of commercial infrastructure development, it is necessary to boost investment attraction in an open-minded way with the aim of not only serving local dwellers but also targeting visitors to the city. To realise these goals, it is high time for Da Nang to focus on developing commercial infrastructure with the scale and service quality of international stature.
Last, but not least, the local industry and trade sector must be a pioneer in implementing digital transformation for its better operations, and calculate rationally and proactively to come up with a response scenario for the successful implementation of targets set for 2021 such as industrial development index, commodity retail sales, and import-export values in light of globally complicated COVID-19 crisis.
