Complicated developments of African swine fever in Da Nang
Most recently, outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF), known as “pig Ebola”, have been reported in 27 villages of 6 communes in Hoa Vang District, Da Nang, according to the district’s Agriculture and Rural Development Office.
To date, 657 pigs across the district, weighing a combined total of 31.7 tonnes, have been culled as a way to prevent spread of the highly contagious disease into other districts.
The Hoa Vang District People’s Committee has just announced the appearance of ASF in Hoa Tien and Hoa Phong communes, as well as asked commune-level authorities to implement urgent solutions to rapidly prevent and control the disease.
Specifically, more than 3,000 litres of disinfectants have been supplied to communes in order to help them take proactive measures to prevent the spread of ASF to the city.
All communes have been asked to keep a close eye on their local pig farms, and urgently take samples for testing if any pigs fall ill or present any symptoms associated with the disease. When any outbreak occurs, the commune-level authorities have to conduct the destruction of all pig herds within 24 hours after a positive test.
