Da Nang, Yokohama discuss urban development projects

On November 18, the 10th Da Nang Urban Development Forum was held virtually with representatives from Da Nang and Japan’s Yokohama City taking part.

In the spotlight at the online event were discussions about the implementation of the Japanese Ministry of Environment-funded project on assisting Da Nang to make action plans to respond to climate change and develop low-carbon technologies, and projects on 3R (reduce, reuse and recycle), wastewater management in industrial parks, and promoting energy efficiency for Da Nang residents over the 2021 – 2025 period, all funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Also, the conducting of the pre-feasibility study of the Smart City supported by Japan ASEAN Mutual Partnership (Smart JAMP) in Da Nang sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism was discussed at the event.

In addition, leaders of Da Nang and Yokohama cities together exchanged solutions and technical programmes, as well as discussed the implementation of some ongoing and new projects in Da Nang.

Specifically, in terms of urban infrastructure development, there were projects on developing public transport systems, building environmentally friendly Da Nang Hi-Tech Park, and managing innovative city and solid waste.

Moreover, organizations, governments and businesses in Japan also revealed their plans to support Da Nang to carry out some new projects.

Speaking at the online event, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Le Quang Nam called for Japanese businesses to introduce advanced technologies to the city, as well as invest into the city’s urban development projects.

Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Planning and Investment Le Minh Truong appealed for Japanese investors to pour their money into the city’s key projects such as the Lien Chieu Port, a solid waste solid waste treatment plant, metro lines, Light Rail Transit (LRT) and smart city building.
