On the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) 2022 break, many people want to rent cars for driving by themselves only about half a month before Tet instead of 2 - 3 months as previously. As noted, this year is seeing the car rental price stand about 10% lower than in the previous ones.

At rental establishments located along Truong Chinh Street in Cam Le District, September 2 and Nguyen Huu Tho streets in Hai Chau District, the rental price of 4 to 5-seat cars belonging to popular brands such as Kia Forte, Hyundai Sonata, Mazda 3, Toyota Camry and Hyundai Elantra for Tet trips is VND1 - 1.5 million per day. Meanwhile VND 600,000 - 1,000,000 per day is set for ordinary days). The rental price depends on the number of seats, vehicle model, manual or automatic transmission.

In general, car rental prices on Tet holiday increase by 30-40% as compared to the normal. Most car rental facilities have required clients to rent for 3 days or above, in case customers rent a car for 7 days or more, they will receive a discount.

As shared by car rental establishments, last Lunar New Year’s car rental services dropped sharply due to the impact of COVID-19 in the northern provinces. This year, this market was still "sluggish" 2 - 3 months before Tet but everything has changed half a month before Tet.

For the time being, most facilities have leased more than 90% of vehicles, mainly 5-seat and 7-seat ones. In particular, 4-seat cars are still available but are expected to be rented out in the coming days.

According to Mr Tran Huy Quang, the owner of a car rental facility in Cam Le District, car rental prices for Tet trips have increased by 40-60% compared to normal days from 2020 onward, but it is cheaper about 10% this year due to the impact of COVID-19.

The reason why the number of passengers booking cars has increased sharply in recent days is that many people are concerned that travelling by bus or train may lead to the risk of COVID-19 infection. In fact, many car rental establishments are in a shortage of cars because they have sold some cars due to the influence of the COVID-19. Therefore, they have to mobilize "idle" ones for lease to customers when needed.

In the opinion of numerous people having car rental experience, the rental price varies depending on the company's pricing, so customers should refer to a plenty of places to choose the most suitable service with afordable prices.

On top of that, customers should carefully check the content of regulations on documents, assets and mortgages mentioned in the contract to avoid disputes arising after the car rental has been conducted.

In addition, it is necessary to check the registration period, car insurance, interior condition of the car, fuel level of the vehicle at the time of receiving and returning the car.

Ideally, customers should take photos of the current interior and exterior status of the vehicle, especially existing scratches and damage to note clearly in the vehicle delivery and receipt.
