Da Nang collects opinions about on project on developing yacht-related industries and services
Yachting industry promises to be a new and large industrial area, create a large trade surplus and make significant contributions to the formation of high-class tourist areas in Da Nang, thereby driving the local economic growth in the years ahead.
The statement was made by Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Tran Phuoc Son at a Wednesday consultation workshop on a project to develop yacht-related industries and services in Da Nang.
During the municipal Department of Industry and Trade-organised workshop, the city’s leaders absorbed consultation opinions from the event attendees to develop good orientations, roadmaps and feasible goals to effectively implement the project with the aim to integrate the project into the city's master planning. This will be the basis and document to conduct investment promotion activities both in yacht-related industries and services.
Mr. Phan Hoang Phuong from the Transport Development and Strategy Institute under the Ministry of Transport - the project’s consulting unit, remarked that thanks to its favourable geographic position and harmonious nature, Da Nang boasted the great potential for the development of the yachting industry.
According to Politburo's Resolution No 43-NQ/TW regarding the city's progress by 2030 with a vision toward 2045, the city has mapped out the roadmap for the implementation of a project on yacht-related industries and services. However, the formation and development of the city's yacht industry has still faced many limitations in terms of land fund and water surface fund. Also, the city has yet to build a modern and synchronous transport infrastructure network and to develop high-quality service areas.
Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thao, Deputy Director of the Viet Nam-Japan Research and Development Centre highlighted that the development of the project was appropriate and at the right time to be integrated into the city’s master general planning. He also suggested that the project should be restructured in a way that makes it easier to visualise the value chain related to the yacht industry. Also, the focus should be on organising many marketing campaigns, preparing for technologies and qualified human resources, and developing a smart investment attraction strategy.
Mr Nguyen Duc Thuan, General Director of the Viet Yacht Company Limited (Vietyacht), a leading yacht distributor in Viet Nam, said that yacht manufacturers around the world were overloaded and planned to seek yacht manufacturers and distributors in Asia. This was a good opportunity for Da Nang.
"If allowed, we are ready to pioneer in building a yacht wharf on Han River which will be able to accommodate 30-50 yachts as well as in bringing many super yachts to Da Nang" said Mr. Thuan.
According to a recent report from the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, over the past time, Da Nang has welcomed many luxury cruise ships with the largest length of up to 280-330m and the maximum capacity of 4,000 passengers such as Costa Venezia, Diamond Princess, and Nordam.
The cruise ship passengers have been mainly from European countries, the US, Japan and China, of which Chinese tourists have accounted for the largest proportion of 50-70%.
During the 2022-2030 period, with a vision to 2045, Da Nang plans to appeal for more investment into 19 priority projects on yacht-related industries and services with a total estimated investment of about VND 6,850 billion.
Specifically, VND 1,240 billion will be appealed during the 2022 – 2025 period, VND 1,050 billion during the 2026 - 2030 period, VND 1,050 billion after 2030, and VND 4,560 billion towards 2045. In which, VND4,500 billion will be called for yacht-related industries, whilst VND 2,350 billion will be for yacht-related services.
