The prolonged blistering heat normally leads to an abrupt upsurge of electricity consumption demand as families often use electrical equipment for cooling such as air conditioners and fans.

Besides, the high outdoor temperature also forces the cooling equipment to operate with a greater capacity and continuous intensity, which results in higher power consumption, an unexpectedly sudden increase of the electricity bill and potential risks of short-circuit and overload hazards of the power grid.

In fact, the economical use of electricity still depends on the perception of consumers.

Regarding to common habits, some people donot turning off the lights when leaving the room or not unplugging the power cord when not using the device, which cause electricity to still be consumed.

On the other hand, the demand for air conditioners in urban areas is very high. So, if each family only needs to save about 10% of electricity consumption by using energy efficient equipment with advantaged technology, a large volume of energy may be saved.

According to Mr. Bui Do Quoc Huy, Deputy Director of Da Nang Power Company Limited (Da Nang PC), electricity consumption in the ongoing summer of 2022 is expected to soar sharply while the power supply is still facing many difficulties.

These are challenges for the electricity industry, so it is very necessary for businesses, agencies, offices and households to economically use electricity during the peak summer time.

In order to ensure the power source for production and daily life, in addition to its operation solutions, the electricity industry is coordinating with sectors, mass organisations and grassroots localities in the city to synchronously deploy many power saving solutions.

For example, Da Nang PC has cooperated with the Department of Industry and Trade and Da Nang Public Lighting Joint Stock Company to successfully organise the ‘Earth Hour 2022 Campaign’ on March 26, 2022.

Customers have been encouraged to participate in the demand response (DR) programme, a change in the power consumption of an electric utility customer to better match the demand for power with the supply.

Accordingly, the energy-saving output reported by Da Nang PC in the first 4 months of 2022 reached 16.35 million kWh, accounting for 2.01% of commercial electricity.

The city eyes to ensure that energy savings will account for at least 2% of the total annual electricity consumption of the whole city in the 2021 - 2025 period.

PC Da Nang recommends that agencies, offices, businesses and households continue to use electricity in the most economical and efficient manner, while contributing to minimising the risk of local overload of the power grid and limiting a dramatic rise in the electricity bill.

Also, customers should closely monitor the daily electricity index at https://pcdn.cpc.vn/tracuu to have a reasonable electricity use plan”.

In particular, when using air conditioners, temperature should be set in the optimal mode, at 26 degree Celsius and above. Also, it is recommended to increase the use of fans to circulate air, instead of air conditioners for the sake of health.

It is also a need to turn off electrical appliances when not in use, regularly clean and maintain equipment to ensure their stable and economical operation and use energy efficient appliances.

In addition to some solutions to help save electricity in the hot summer season, Da Nang PC also gives some recommendations to ensure safety when using electricity such as turning off unnecessary electrical equipment before leaving the house or before sleeping, immediately disconnecting heat-generating electrical equipment and tools, including electric stoves and electric resistance heating devices from the power source when not in use, avoiding leaving combustible substances (gas, gasoline, oil, paper and fabric) near power lines and equipment, and making calls to 19001909 when there are abnormal signs or any electrical problems.
