The more than 15km-long Nguyen Tat Thanh coastal route, passing through Thanh Khe and Lien Chieu districts and a part of Hai Chau District, is expected to promote the development of service and tourism industries on the northwest side of Da Nang. However, after nearly 20 years of being put into use, the potential and advantages of the route have not been fully tapped.

Once considered a ‘5-star’ route around the beautiful Da Nang Bay, Nguyen Tat Thanh has been exploited for its traffic purposes. Therefore, over the past time, Da Nang has made every effort to launch and deploy a number of works and projects in a bid to arouse the commercial and tourism potential of the seaside route.

Following the Prime Minister-approved adjustments to the master plan for Da Nang's major developments by 2030, with a vision to 2045, the city’s landscape structure comprises three typical urban areas, namely waterfront area, green core zone and hillside area, and an ecological area.

As for waterfront area, especially the coastal sandy areas, priority will be given to building parks and walkways in tandem with ensuring the coastal protection corridor and creating accessible beach walk for locals and visitors.

Previously, according to the Prime Minister-issued Decision No. 393/QD-TTg dated March 18, 2020 on adjusting the master plan for the city’s socio-economic development by 2020 with a vision to 2030, special attention was paid to making the Da Nang Bay with unique architecture and services one of the highlights for Da Nang.

Therefore, exploiting the Da Nang Bay is one of the city’s big plans in the coming time to contribute to improving the tourism value and stature of the city.

On February 14, 2022, the Da Nang administration leaders worked with the Huni Vietnam Co., Ltd. on the landscape design of Nguyen Tat Thanh coastal route.

During the working session, a representative of the Huni Vietnam Co., Ltd. said that the Nguyen Tat Thanh route has not been exploited to its full potential, and it is currently only used for the needs of local people. Therefore, it was necessary to redesign the area's landscape to combine sea and mountain elements into a thriving city, thereby providing a connection between tangible values, local people and tourism development.

Architect Nguyen Thuong Vu from the Ky Viet Construction Technical Consultancy Investment JSC assessed that Nguyen Tat Thanh coastal route was full of potential for tourism and commerce, bearing the responsibility for promoting the development of beach services in the city's northwest gateway in the future.

The route not only ensures the smooth traffic flows from the Hai Van Tunnel to the Thuan Phuoc Bridge, the Son Tra Peninsula and the tourist route from Da Nang to Quang Nam Province’s Hoi An City, but also opens up a great tourism potential for Da Nang in particular and Central Viet Nam in general.

According to Chief of Office of the municipal Department of Planning and Investment Tran Van Hoang, in the near future, the Da Nang Bay will be developed into an ‘on-beach urban’. In addition, a number of ongoing projects will promote the development of the Da Nang Bay in the coming time. Included are the Lien Chieu mega-port, a coastal road connecting the soon-to-be-constructed Lien Chieu Port with National Highway 1A, the Lang Van tourist resort and entertainment complex, the Mikazuki Spa & Hotel Resort, and the Asiana Apartment.

Meanwhile, at the end of Nguyen Tat Thanh route, some categories which are part of the Nam O community-based tourism project in Lien Chieu District are being constructed by the Trung Thuy Group - the project’s investor. One of the highlights is a park combined with a public parking area in front of Nguyen Tat Thanh route or a beach square park.

Especially, four squares, and bathing areas combined with marine parks, are being constructed along Nguyen Tat Thanh route in a bid to promote the development off tourism and urban economy in the Da Nang Bay.

Mr. Pierre Huyard, General Director of the Asia - Pacific Region’s Development Department from the Huni Architectes Company, stressed the need for Da Nang to design landscape for public space bordering the urban area, aimed at promoting the strengths of Nguyen Tat Thanh coastal route and surrounding areas.

He underlined that the design needs to be harmonious and feature highlights and identities, thereby creating a similarity in the typical landscape of the coastal route. This will promote the development of service trade on the key route.

Mr. Pierre Huyard hoped that in the near future, once fully completed, the component landscape projects along the Nguyen Tat Thanh route would contribute to fully tapping the potential and values off the route.
