The above-mentioned figures were released by the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) a nationwide online conference held on Friday on the implementation of the OCOP and rural tourism development schemes in the ongoing programme of building up new-style rural areas in the 2021 - 2025 period.

As reported, all provinces and cities across the country have already organised OCOP product evaluation and classification. Specifically, 3-star ones accounted 65.4% of the total 8,478 OCOP, 4-star ones with 33.4%, 5-star potential ones and 5-star ones with 0.2%. Particularly, Da Nang has evaluated and classified 40 OCOP products, 23 of which are 3-star ones and 14 are 4-star ones.

Over the past time, the city has released many policies and activities to support OCOP developers to standardize the application for classification, develop branding, packaging designs, websites and product traceability stamps, register for the quality certification of ISO, HACCP and VietGAP, participate in trade promotion programmes, form display points and introduce OCOP products bearing  the Da Nang characteristics.

Speaking at the conference, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan emphasised the important role of the OCOP and rural tourism development programmes in the 2021 - 2025 period.

These programmes help to arouse potential, advantages and cultural values; create space for economic development, community cohesion values, promote rural economic development.

The implementation of these programmes should be flexible and appropriate in the direction of promoting the potential and advantages of agriculture, traditional craft villages, culture and ecological environment of each locality.

In particular, it is necessary to have an integrated thinking in product association, diversification and value optimisation of products, creating livelihoods for people, engaging the whole community in building and developing products.

Minister Hoan affirmed that rural tourism must create interference and interaction when drawing the flow of domestic and international tourists to the locality. The development of rural tourism is not only for economic benefits but also for responsibility and pride of the homeland.
