National master plan: Da Nang is included in North Central Coast and Central Coast region

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has signed a decision regarding the national master plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2050.

Under the master plan, development space will be organised in 6 regions.

Accordingly, the northern midland and mountainous region consists of 14 provinces of Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Lai Chau, Son La, Dien Bien and Hoa Binh. The region is divided into Northeast and Northwest sub-regions.

The Red River Delta region comprises 11 provinces and cities of Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh and Quang Ninh.

The North Central Coast and Central Coast region is composed of 14 provinces and cities of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh , Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan. The region is divided into North Central and South Central Coast sub-regions.

The Central Highlands region consists of 5 provinces of Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Lam Dong.

The Southeast region features 6 provinces and cities of Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, and Tay Ninh.

The Mekong River Delta comprises 13 provinces and cities of Can Tho, Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, An Giang, Dong Thap, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Moon, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau.

The resolution also specifies the development orientations for socio-economic and marine spaces, the use of national land, the exploitation and use of airspace, the regional linkage, and the development of the national urban and rural system.

Under the resolution, Viet Nam targets to become a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030, and a developed and high-income country by 2050. The national population will reach about 105 million by 2030.

According to the Resolution, some key tasks and breakthroughs are identified for the national development.

Specifically, the basic framework of national infrastructure will be formed with a focus on transport infrastructure, energy, urban areas, digital infrastructure, environmental protection, irrigation, natural disaster prevention, climate change adaptation, and cultural and social infrastructure.

Importance will be attached to accelerating economic restructuring and development space, and ensuring productivity, quality and efficiency improvement. Priority will be given to developing a number of industries and fields that have great potential and advantages as a driving force for driving growth and improving the autonomy of the economy.

Heed will be on developing important national growth drivers and poles to form locomotives for promoting the national development, as well as selecting a number of locations, urban areas and regions boasting special advantages to build economic, financial centers, administrative-economic hubs with special institutions, mechanisms, and policies. At the same time, appropriate mechanisms and policies will be issued to develop deep-lying, remote, border and island areas to contribute to maintaining political stability and national defence and security.

Attention will be paid to forming and developing economic corridors along the North-South and East-West axises connecting seaports, airports, international border gates, major trading hubs, urban centers, economic centers and polar regions, as well as developing industrial - urban - service belts in dynamic regions and large urban areas.
