Da Nang’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in January edged up by 1.12% from last December and by 9.44% from the same period last year.

In particular, 8 out of the 11 commodity groups recorded an increase in CPI. Accordingly, the prices of housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials posted a growth of 1.99%; traffic 1.67%; beverages and tobacco 1.32%; food and catering services 1.27%; other goods and services 0.76%; apparel, hats and footwear 0.56%; culture, entertainment and tourism 0.46%; and appliances and household appliances 0.33%.

Meanwhile, groups of post and telecommunications, and medical services, showed their decrease of 0.16% and 0.01% respectively in CPI. The other group of education had stable CPI compared to the previous month.

Price hikes in most food items were the most prominent reason for the increase in CPI prices of many groups of goods and services in January. Specially, a hike in the prices of fresh seafood and fruits caused the prices of goods, food and foodstuffs going up by 1.07% and 2.29% respectively.

Also, there was a hike in the prices of input materials used to prepare dishes at restaurants, so restaurants had to increase prices to offset the costs. Besides, the increasing travelling demand during the Tet holiday resulted in a significant increase in the prices of all types of public transport services.
