The Da Nang government has promulgated a document to implement the Prime Minister's Decision No. 892 dated July 26, 2022 on shaping marine economic clusters associated with setting up major marine economic centers to 2030. The marine economy creates a driving force and lay a strong foundation for outpacing Da Nang’s growth as well as helping the city attract domestic and foreign direct investment flows.

Sticking to the city’s development strategy
Da Nang has taken advantage of its geo-economic position to promote the development of the tourism industry and marine economy. The focus has been on implementing development projects with a series of bridges spanning the Han River and coastal routes, thereby attracting significant investments into tourism real estate development projects, making the city an attractive tourist destination as well as making it shine on the world tourism map.
Da Nang Institute For Socio - Economic Development Director Huynh Huy Hoa highlighted the city’s great potential for marine economic development due to its favorable geo-economic conditions and well-planned infrastructure, including marine tourism infrastructure.
Da Nang's maritime economy, especially seaport services, has achieved strong growth after the Da Nang Port changed its operating model with a focus on exploiting the advantages of cargo containers. Besides, products from fisheries and seafood processing sector are among the city’s top export items.
Simultaneously, promoting potential and benefits of the sea for the development of tourism through effectively exploiting the potential of marine tourism has created specific tourism products, thereby building successful city branding in efforts to promote it as an attractive tourist destination. Moreover, Da Nang has made great efforts to become a dynamic and modern coastal city, making it more inviting to real estate investors.
On February 28, 2020, the Da Nang government issued a plan to implement the Municipal Party Committee’s action program No. 28 dated February 18, 2019 on promoting sustainable development in the city’s marine economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. Accordingly, Da Nang targets to become a major marine economic center in Viet Nam and one of best coastal cities in the world with a focus on promoting the healthy development of ocean economy sectors, ensuring social welfare and protecting the environment.
The city aims to contribute 10% and 15% of the marine economic sectors to the city's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025 and 2030, respectively. By 2045, Da Nang will create a sustainable and prosperous ocean economy.
Abundant resources
The ‘steel fist’ of the city's marine economic development is the Lien Chieu Port project which began construction in late 2022. This is the city’s most important project which is the driving force of the city’s development.
The Lien Chieu Port will represent a remarkable breakthrough in the transportation and logistics sector in addition to bringing great benefits to tourism and services industries, forming an international trade network in a diverse and rich manner in a bid to outpace the growth of Da Nang, and Central Viet Nam as a whole, once the project is fully operational.
Da Nang becomes a regional hub due to its important position in terms of economy, politics and national security and defense. Therefore, Viet Nam’s national government has set an ambitious target for Da Nang to become a marine economic center at the national and regional levels.
Specifically, the Politburo’s Resolution No. 43 dated January 24, 2019 on construction and development of Da Nang to 2030, with a vision to 2045 clearly identified the marine economy, tourism. and high-tech industry as the three pillars for the city's development. The Lien Chieu Port project is the first step to realize the city’s development goals that were set in the Resolution No. 43.
The Prime Minister- approved master plan on the development of Viet Nam's seaport system in the 2021 – 2030 period, with a vision to 2050 also identified Da Nang’s seaport as the largest one in Central Viet Nam and one of the three largest and key ones in Viet Nam.
The Politburo’s Resolution No. 26 dated November 3, 2022 on promoting the socio-economic development and safeguarding national defense and security in North Central Coast and Central Coast of Viet Nam to 2030, with a vision to 2045 set very ambitious goals for Da Nang to become a regional multi-industry hub.
In particular, it is emphasized that Da Nang will focus on setting up fisheries logistic service centers linking with seaports, the airport and the border crossings in combination with ensuring national defense and security.
The above-mentioned important resolutions show great care and support of the Politburo and the national government given to Da Nang, thereby opening up opportunities for Da Nang to drive its multi-industry economic development , especially the ocean economy.
