The northern region is facing the serious shortage of power when entering the peak of summer. Meanwhile, Da Nang still ensures adequate electricity supply for local residents and businesses. However, corporate customers in the city have proactively taken the initiative to save electricity while ensuring production requirements.

Many power saving solutions

Currently, Da Nang has 51 key energy users from 500 tons of oil equivalent (TOE) or more (1,000 kWh = 0.1543 TOE).

For example, the Da Nang Rubber JSC consumed 10,729 TOE, the Hoa Tho Textile and Garment Corporation 5,230 TOE, and the Asia Architecture and Trading Co., Ltd. 4,939 TOE.

In addition, the city has hundreds of other large electricity consumers with an annual energy level of 200 TOE or more, most of which are enterprises in the industrial and construction sectors.

With the above electricity consumption, on average, each key energy user has to pay electricity costs from several hundred million of VND to several billion of VND per month.

Saving electricity is an urgent requirement that Hoa Tho Textile and Garment Corporation thoroughly understands for all employees of the enterprise.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Binh, Deputy General Director of the Hoa Tho Textile and Garment Corporation, said that the enterprise's expected electricity purchased outside of 2023 is 31.5 million kWh (4,860.5 TOE), equivalent to VND52 billion. In addition, the company produces electricity from rooftop solar energy of nearly 2.57 million kWh (equivalent to 397 TOE).

In order to save energy, the corporation continues to implement power saving solutions such as disconnecting all electrical devices that are not in use, and alternately using air compressors during off-peak hours.

It also plans to add modern equipment to save electricity, including fully automatic fabric spreading and cutting machines, and Rieter RSB-D 50 Autoleveller Draw Frame. These solutions help reduce power consumption by more than 10%.

The A Chau Architecture and Trading Co., Ltd. has been implementing energy-saving solutions such as replacing all incandescent bulbs with energy-saving LEDs, and participating in ISO 50001:2018 energy management system.

Additionally, the company has been coordinating with the Center for Energy Saving and Technology Transfer Consulting under the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology to check whether the company's energy use is lost or not to take appropriate measures.

Meanwhile, the Daiwa Vietnam Co., Ltd. is using a circulating water system to lower the temperature in the factory to about 3-4 degrees, saving power consumption from air conditioners and fans.

Mr. Thai Ngoc Trung, Deputy Head of the Authority of the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Parks, said that the unit has issued a plan to mobilise all officials, public employees, and government departments and agencies to economically use electricity and water.

Ensuring power supply options in all situations

Most recently, Da Nang PC has worked with large customers that consume a lot of electricity such as the Da Nang Rubber JSC and the Da Nang Steel JSC to implement the programme to adjust Demand Response (DR). Up to now, Da Nang PC has signed a DR agreement with 117 customers.

The strengthening of coordination in DR adjustment is a solution to improve the efficiency of electricity use, thereby contributing to reducing the peak capacity of the power system during peak hours, and easing pressure on the power industry.

Mr. Le Hoang Anh Dung, Deputy General Director of the Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC), under the State-owned Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN), said that in order to ensure a quality, safe and continuous power source to serve customers in the summer of 2023, EVNCPC requires member power companies to deploy plans to proactively supply power in all situations, especially preparing load conditioning plans for important electricity users.

When there is repair, maintenance and construction of power grid works, the power companies carefully review the construction organisation plan to arrange an appropriate time of power outage and ensure the return of the grid, restore the power supply to the grid in accordance with the notice time.

Currently, the Central Viet Nam has not had a shortage of electricity and there is no power cut because EVNCPC's power source is received from the national power system and small hydroelectric plants under 30 MW. Also, the rooftop solar power system in the area ensures the enough power supply for the city.
