Taekwondo clinches first gold medal
Taekwondo martial artists took their first gold medal for Viet Nam on the morning of the seventh day of the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, helping Viet Nam maintain its second place with 58 gold medals.
Nguyen Minh Van and Nguyen Minh Tu delivered a strong performance to earn 78.9 points and rank first in the mixed pair poomsae final.
Malaysia came in second with 78.1 and Singapore got the bronze with 76.7.
In athletics, gold hopeful Quach Cong Lich finished first in heat 1 of the men’s 400-metre event to advance to the final.
In archery, Nguyen Tien Cuong beat Sapriatno Sapriatno of Indonesia in the semi-finals to reach the final in the men’s individual compound event.
In the men’s basketball, Viet Nam earned their first win after beating Myanmar 96-68.
The team will face Cambodia in the last match.
