1st Cycling Race to conquer Hai Van Pass to be held this weekend
The 1st Cycling Race to conquer the Hai Van Pass, which is 496m above sea level and is at the geographical boundary between Da Nang and Thua Thien-Hue Province, will take place on 2 and 3 January 2016.
A total of 250 cyclists from 32 cycling clubs nationwide will participate in the contest, 39 of whom are from Da Nang.
The opening ceremony of the event will take place at the Truong Vuong Theatre on 2 January. Then, the participating contestants will take part in a cycling parade along some of the city’s major streets. The parade route will be Trung Vuong Theatre - Hung Vuong - Tran Phu - Rong (Dragon) Bridge - Ngo Quyen - Han River Bridge - Le Duan - Dien Bien Phu - Hue T-junction overpass - Ton Duc Thang - Hoang Van Thai - Nam Hai Van Bypass. After the parade, the cyclists will compete in a 38 km semi-mountain race along a route starting from the Nam Hai Van Bypass to the foot of the Ba Na Mountain.
The following day, contestants will participate in a 9.1km race from the foot of the Hai Van Pass to the Hai Van Pass Gate at the top.
Under the competition's rules, male contestants will be divided into 3 age groups: 18 - 35, 36 - 45 and 46 - 55, whilst there are no age groups for female cyclists.
