On Monday, a city-level reportage-writing contest entitled ‘Da Nang - 20 Years of Innovation’ was launched at the offices of the DA NANG Newspaper.

The contest is part of activities to mark 20 years since Da Nang’s recognition as a centrally-governed city on 1 January 1997, and to highlight the city’s remarkable achievements during its renewal process.

Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung will be Head of the event’s organising board.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, the Acting Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, Mr Truong Cong Dinh, said “Contestants should focus on introducing typical outstanding examples in local society, and honouring outstanding individuals and groups who have made great efforts for the city's renewal process.  Also, special attention should be paid to criticising any negative phenomena in society which have hindered the process over recent years”.

The Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Journalists' Association and Chairman of the Da Nang Journalists' Association, Mr Mai Duc Loc, stressed the need for contestants to truthfully express the noteworthy issues of the renewal period.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the city’s Union of Literature and Art Associations, Mr Bui Van Tieng, remarked that entries should truly reflect the aspirations of local residents who are either living on the mainland or on the country's islands.

The Deputy Head of the Department of Publicity and Training, Mr Bui Xuan, stressed the need for the contest organisers to widely publicise the contest in the mass media in order to attract a large number of entries and ensure the event’s success.
