Where to go for New Year Breaks
Thanks to its hi-end tourism services and the friendliness and hospitability of the local residents, Da Nang is very attractive to visitors from both home and abroad over the imminent New Year breaks.
Here are the best places for visitors to spend their holiday in the city.
1. Marble Mountains Tourism Area
The Marble Mountains tourism area is a must-see for every visitor to the city |
About 10 km south of Da Nang’s centre, the Marble Mountains tourism area is one of the most popular beauty sites in Central Viet Nam, and a must-see for every visitor to the city.
The venue is a group of five marble and limestone mountains, each named after one of the five elements in ancient oriental philosophy: metal, wood, water, fire and earth.
The site's fanciful scenery |
Of the 5 mountains, Thuy Son, the mountain of water, is the highest and also the main attraction.
Visiting this site, you will be overwhelmingly excited by its incredible and amazing beauty.
2. Son Tra Peninsula
A road leading to the peninsula |
About 10km northeast of the city centre, the Son Tra Peninsula is seen as a ‘green lung’ for the city. It also plays a vital role as a wind barrier, protecting the city during the rainy and stormy season.
The peninsula, which covers an area of 4,439ha, is now home to a wide range of rare birds and other animal species, including red-shanked douc langurs, crab-eating macaques, rhesus macaques, reticulated pythons, and red junglefowl.
A corner of the Linh Ung Pagoda |
In addition, the venue boats such popular tourist attractions as the Linh Ung Pagoda with the magical Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara statue, the over 800-year-old banyan tree, a lighthouse, Ban Co (Chessboard) Peak, the Dong Dinh Museum, and a wartime helipad.

The peninsula shows off its beautiful natural landscapes and amusement areas along the beaches. Visitors to the site will be fascinated by the extensive green-covered mountains and the winding roads.
3. Hai Van Gate
The Hai Van Gate, which is located at the geographical boundary between Da Nang and Thua Thien-Hue Province, has been recognised as a national relic site featuring profound historical, architectural and artistic values.
The stunning scenery of the Hai Van Pass |
Located at 490m above sea level, Hai Van Gate literally means ‘ocean cloud gate,’ referring to the mists that sometimes rise from the sea and reduce visibility.
The gate deserves its name ‘the most marvellous wonder’ |
In 1826, during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang, a rampart and a fortified gateway were built at the top of the Hai Van Pass. Combining nature and the creations of man, the gate deserves its name ‘the most marvellous wonder’ which was given to it by Emperor Le Thanh Tong when he went sightseeing there. Despite its long history, the gate is still solid.
4. Sun World Ba Na Hills
The Sun World Ba Na Hills resort is a wonderful place for romantic couples to welcome in New Year thanks to its beautiful landscapes, brilliant blooming flowers, ancient architectural buildings, and foggy weather.
Hotels at the resort feature European style architecture |
The resort features the French Village, the Le Jardin Flower Garden, a mountain-climbing train, the Debay Wine Cellar, the Linh Ung Pagoda, and the first-ever wax museum in Viet Nam.
The Fantasy Park, which is the largest indoor entertainment centre in Southeast Asia, opens up a lively and attractive entertainment world which offers both exciting and fun games for children, and adventurous games for adults.
5. Sparkling bridges spanning the Han River at night
The sparkling Han River Bridge at night |
One of Da Nang’s most outstanding features – and no doubt the first one that strikes many a visitor to this beautiful city – is its set of awesome, beautiful, and often ‘eccentric’ bridges.
A prosperous corner of the city |
The river has become a local landmark partly due to numerous beautiful bridges spanning it, including Thuan Phuoc, Han River Swing, Rong (Dragon), Tran Thi Ly and Tien Son bridges. These bridges all feature their special own architectural characteristics when compared with others nationwide.
At 9.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays, Dragon’s head breathes fire and squirts water at the eastern end of the Rong Bridge.

In particular, a spectacular firework display will take place between 9.00pm and 9.14pm on Sunday, 31 December. A total of 1,000 high-level and 337 low-level fireworks tubes will let off on barges floating on a section of the Han River, near its eastern bank.
6. Asia Park
The Sun Group-developed Sun World Danang Wonders (Asia Park) is an ideal venue for young people and families with children.
A spectacular view of the park |
Like miniature Asia, the park showcases replicas of architectural building styles and landscapes typical ofAsian countries such as Singapore, Cambodia, Japan, China, Thailand and South Korea.
In addition, the young will have the opportunity to experience numerous adventurous games, including Queen Cobra-Viet Nam’s largest roller coaster, and a Golden Sky Tower-the highest free fall tower in Viet Nam, and the Sun Wheel-one of the world’s 10 highest observation wheels.
There is also an indoor entertainment area which offers soft-play entertainment activities for children.
