Various cultural activities for Tet

A wide range of cultural activities will take place across Da Nang to welcome in the upcoming Lunar New Year 2018 (Tet).

In particular, the ‘Vietnamese Traditional Folk Painting Exhibition’ will be held at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum at 78 Le Duan from 1-25 February.  Jointly organised by the museum and the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum, the event will showcase a total of 62 outstanding works from traditional painting villages nationwide.

Between 2 and 25 February, a large number of Vietnamese documentary films about the nation's history and its traditional patriotism will be screened at the Le Do Cinema, 46 Tran Phu.  During the period, the Cinema and Film Distribution Centre’s mobile team will screen the films at local military units and schools, as well as in remote areas.

The Spring Newspaper Festival will be held at the General Science Library from 7-25 February.  On display are copies of Tet magazines from press agencies nationwide, along with 100 arts photos taken by photographers from the municipal Fine Arts Association. 

During the period, a book exhibition will be organised at the library to mark 88th anniversary of the establishment of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, and the General Offensive and Uprising against the US in the spring of 1968.

The city’s skyline will be lit up with spectacular fireworks display to welcome in the Lunar New Year 2018 at midnight on Lunar New Year’s Eve, which will fall on 16 February.  The 15-minute-long fireworks shows will be at Nguyen Van Troi Bridge, the Kim Long Nam Project’s vacant land area in front of the Lien Chieu District Administration Centre, and a vacant land area in front of the Hoa Vang District Administration Centre.

On 16 February, a cultural event entitled ‘Picking the First Buds in the New Year’ will be held at the Museum of Da Nang, 24 Tran Phu, at 10.00am.  Visitors to the event will be also treated to wonderful lion dances performed by local professional groups.

At 10.00pm on the same day, public musical performances to welcome in the Tet Festival will take place in front of the Trung Vuong Theatre and at a vacant land lot near the intersection of Tran Hung Dao and Ly Nam De.

From 16 -18 February, a large number of beautiful gifts will be given to visitors to the Fine Arts Museum.

Between 5.00pm and 9.30pm on 17 and 18 February, ‘Bai choi’ (singing while acting as playing cards) performances will be held on the pavement of Tran Hung Dao at the eastern end of the Rong (Dragon) Bridge in Son Tra District.

Visitors will be treated to fascinating trumpet performances at the western end of the Rong Bridge at 7.45pm on 18 February.

From 19-22 February, exciting arts programmes will be held at the 29 March Park.  Organised by the Nguyen Hien Dinh Tuong (Classical Drama) Theatre, the programmes feature various traditional classical drama items and water puppet shows.

A musical programmes entitled ‘The Melodies of Colours’ will take place at a vacant land lot near the intersection of Tran Hung Dao and Ly Nam De on 21 February.  The event features outstanding performances by contestants at the recent artistic talent competition held in the city.

Between 7.30pm and 9.00pm on 24 February, local residents and visitors have the opportunity to enjoy street music performance at the western end of the Rong (Dragon) Bridge, opposite the Museum of Cham Sculpture.
