It’s a fact that recent years have seen an upward trend in the number of domestic travellers who prefer independent travel than guided tours.
Travellers tend to book combo tours by themselves, including flights and hotels. After arriving in a locality, they can select suitable daily tours there to discover local attractions and learn about local culture.
Mr Nguyen Van Tai, Chairman of the Board of Director of the city-based New Connection Events and Tourism JSC (Necotour), said tours to Da Nang, Hoi An, Phu Quoc, Trang An and Sapa are amongst the most popular with domestic travellers.
He added outbound tours to such countries as Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Australia, the USA, and Dubai have seen a significant increase in the number of domestic bookers.
Since the first days of New Year 2020, the city-based travel agencies have offered many attractive promotional programmes for Vietnamese and foreign holiday makers booking flights and tours to domestic and international destinations. The tour operators include the city branches of the TransViet Travel Company, the Saigontourist Travel Service Company, the Viet Nam Tourism Joint Stock Company (Vitours), and the Viet Nam Travel and Marketing Transports JSC (Vietravel).
A representative of the city branch of the Vietravel company said that most of domestic travellers prefer to book tours lasting 4 to 5 days during the Tet holiday.
Mr Nguyen Nhu Nam, the General Director of the Viet Nam Travel Mart Company, said apart from attractive promotional programmes, travel agencies would give ‘li xi’ (lucky money) to their guests, and take them to best places to visit in the city. Specifically, foreign visitors would have the opportunity to experience traditional Tet customs of Viet Nam during Tet.

The most interesting event in the city is the Tet Village Market at the Furama Danang Resort between 17 and 19 January from 6.30pm - 9.30pm daily.
The event, the 10th of its kind to be held at the resort, aims to preserve and promote Vietnamese cultural traditions for Tet.
It will re-create such images of a typical Vietnamese rural village as bamboo hedges, banana tree groves, thatched cottages, and boys sitting on a buffalo and playing the flute.
Visitors will be able to enjoy delicious foods in an eating and drinking area, including ‘banh chung’ (square glutinous rice cake), ‘banh tet’ (cylindrical glutinous rice cakes), 'bun bo Hue' (Hue beef noodle soup), and Quang noodles. They will be also treated to numerous fascinating activities.
From 15 January - 20 February, the Tet of Heritage 2020’ programme is taking place in the Cocobay entertainment and tourism complex.
During the event, visitors can return to their childhood when they participate in fun folk games, try delicious dishes, and enjoy exciting cultural activities.
In addition, a wide range of events will be held across the city to welcome in the Tet Festival.
