Arts exhibition recreates history, culture and architecture of fishing village in Da Nang

An arts exhibition entitled ‘Heading out to sea’ is taking place at the Museum of Da Nang, 24 Tran Phu Street, from May 20 - 22.

Within the framework of the on-going exhibition, visitors are instructed to knit fishing nets by fishermen.

Co-organised by the museum and the Da Nang University of Architecture, the event aims to spread historical and cultural values and typical architectural features of fishing villages in the city.

The exhibition features a total of 15 paintings and 20 sketch works that help visitors understand more about typical culture, history, and architecture of fishing villages in the city.

Additionally, visitors to the exhibition have the opportunity to join a talk show entitled ‘Inspirational people - Fisheries now and then’, as well as participate in a writing contest for those who love the sea and traditional cultural values ​​in fishing villages in the city, and a ‘Surf Dance’ Tiktok dance contest.

During the talk show, participants are told stories about traditional fishing activities, along with changes and impacts on fishermen in the present time, by researchers and fishermen.

Within the framework of the on-going exhibition, two books titled ‘Da Nang Mai Dinh Lang Bien’ and ‘Hoi Uc Lang Chai’ are being introduced to the public.

The two books have been compiled by nearly 350 lecturers and students from the city’s University of Architecture over the past three years, with the aim of contributing to preserving and spreading the cultural values ​​of fishing villages to locals in the context of the current rapid urbanisation process.
