Da Nang's high school students demonstrate intelligence and agility at Quang Region Generation Z Contest
After 2 months of competition, the first-ever Quang Region Generation Z Contest which was open to senior high school students has ended.
At the end, first prize has been awarded to the team of the Hoang Hoa Tham Senior High School.

This was the first time the Quang Region Generation Z Contest has been organized in Da Nang by the Da Nang Department of Education and Training, the Duy Tan University, and Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper. The contest attracted the participation of teams from 25 senior high schools across the city, creating a vibrant learning environment for Da Nang's high school students.
The Knowledge Contest revolved around the subjects of geography, culture, history, and traditions of the people in Da Nang, and Quang Region as a whole. The contest comprised of 4 categories, namely rhetoric and presentation skills, knowledge test, and the answers to Board of Judges’questions.
Ngo Nhu Y, an eleventh grader of the Hoang Hoa Tham Senior High School said that it took her 2 months to prepare her nearly 10-minute rhetorical speech themed "Viet Nam’s Islands and sea" for this Knowledge Contest.
Furthermore, she spent time going to the Museum of Da Nang and the Hoang Sa Exhibition House where she can learn more about Viet Nam’s sea and islands, thereby helping her collect vivid evidence that highlighted the importance of Viet Nam’s islands and sea so that she could skillfully integrated them into her nearly 10-minute rhetorical speech to make it more engaging to present it at the contest.
The contest helped the participants have the chance to test their knowledge about history, culture, and geography, as well as improve their presentation skills, and make and perform their related skits.
"I, and the my team as a whole, was bursting with happiness that our efforts paid off and we won the first prize in this contest," Nhu Y said.
In addition to first team prize, the Hoang Hoa Tham Senior High School excellently bagged additional awards for the best contestant in categories of rhetoric and presentation skills.
Teacher Pham Tan Ngoc Thuy, the Principal of the Hoang Hoa Tham Senior High School, said that he realized that the generation Z showcased a comprehensive view of culture and history through their participation in this contest.
Moreover, the participating teams had a good ability to solve problems, and make skits with engaging content. In particular, the contest provided the contestants from the Hoang Hoa Tham Senior High School with the chance to learn more about their school's history through their rhetorical speech related to Viet Nam’s islands, and sea, plus famous people in the school’s history. Especially, the contestants from the Hoang Hoa Tham Senior High School quickly found appropriate and effective ways when facing with difficult problems at this contest, such as choosing an interesting persuasive speech topic to impress the contest’s judges, and challenges in knowledge test beyond textbooks.
Meanwhile, researcher Bui Xuan, an advisor of the Quang Region Generation Z Contest, said that the contest created a creative space for high school students. In particular, the Gen Z generation demonstrated their intelligence and agility through their rhetoric presentation at the contest.
The contest’s judges also asked the contestants many difficult questions to test their foreign language knowledge and their ability to deal with hypothetical problems. The teams from Hoang Hoa Tham, Son Tra, and Nguyen Khien high schools were the finalists in the contest, and all of them well demonstrated the elements that characterize current affairs and traditional arts, meeting the contest’s requirements.
According to researcher Bui Xuan's assessment, in the context of Industry 4.0, high school students find it easy to use information on the internet to generate the best content in a comprehensive manner to present at the contest.
The contest’s jury board praised participating the teams for their cheerful and humorous presentation skills, along with creative messages contained in their persuasive speech .
Mr. Ngo Ngoc Hoang Vuong, the Principal of Ngu Hanh Son High School, a member of the contest’s organizing board, assessed that Generation Z demonstrated their good presentation skills, as well as used their comprehensive and diverse knowledge to deliver engaging speech in order to impress the judges.
Mr Vuong also said that the contest has awakened spirit of self-study among high school students, as well as helped educators recognize the great abilities of the generation Z.
Many constants have good general knowledge and good foreign language skills as they could not only answer the judges' questions correctly but also use the language fluently and flexibly to express their thinking, as well as demonstrate responsibility in preserving, protecting and promoting local cultural and historical heritage.
