Vietnamese chef wins first prize at international cooking contest

The Culinary Challenge “CATRION Jet Setters Platte” cooking contest has taken place at the Furama Resort Da Nang with the participation of catering chefs from Viet Nam and Sri Lanka.

The event was part of the Asia Pacific Onboard Travel (APOT) Forum 2023 which was held in Da Nang from November 25-28.

In the end, the first prize was awarded to chef Doi Thi Ngoc Diep, a professional pastry instructor of the Ha Noi-based CHM International Academy  specialising in training human resources in the culinary, tourism and hotel fields, for her food eye-catchingly decorated according to aviation standards.

In addition, chef Vo Quoc Viet from the Menas Company - the unit that operates commercial centers, and manage real estate and culinary chains in Viet Nam, was honoured with the first prize for the appetizer called "An Giang-style grapefruit salad with ocean squid" and the "Best Chef in the Kitchen" Award.

Mr. Thomas Gugler, President of the World Chefs Association, Head of the jury, shared that this is an interesting and inspiring chef competition gathering many chefs to exchange and share experience about cooking meals for international flights.

“This event is a way for APOT 2023 to highlight interest in improving the quality of aviation cuisine in addition to other experience such as seating and entertainment services” he added.

According to chef Vo Quoc Viet, the cooking contest was an opportunity for chefs to learn, interact and better understand the characteristics of the aviation culinary industry. A top-notch airline culinary not only requires delicious, beautifully decorated food but also must be practical, consistent with the service characteristics of the aviation industry.

Mr. Gentzsch Andre Piere, General Director of the Furama - Ariyana Da Nang tourist complex, the unit accompanying APOT 2023, said that the cooking contest contributed to making Da Nang tourism and cuisine a bright spot on the world’s culinary tourism map.
