Applying technology to serve sightseeing

During the process of moving artifacts from old museum to the new one, the exhibition work is considered the most important task. Because, through exhibition work, the museum can express its content and viewpoints in the most complete way.

Therefore, recently, the Museum of Da Nang has focused on rechecking all 27,000 artifacts in storage to prepare for display at the new facility. Along with that, it has actively coordinated with the Vietsoftpro JSC to digitize 2,000 documents, cube artifacts, paintings, photos and maps in a bid to serve the public's sightseeing needs.

A representative of the Vietsoftpro JSC said that it has so far completed digitizing about 300 documents and artifacts. As for 3D scanning, artifacts are digitized through many stages, from scanning with high-tech machinery, taking pictures of surfaces and angles to 3D post-production, and assembling with artifact information using text files and audio to have finished files. This will help the public easily access and explore documents and artifacts through the presentation screen. At the same time, visitors can touch the screen and listen to explanations about the artifacts through QR codes, contributing to spreading the museum's display content and messages to the public more vividly.

In addition to the digitalization of artifacts, the museum has actively got involved in supporting specialized technology units to produce 3D films about Da Nang history which are expected to be screened to serve the public at the new facility.

Head of the Collection - Display and Preservation Department of the Museum of Da Nang Tran Van Chuan said that four 3D movies will be screened to the public at the new museum. They will be the battle in 1858-1860, the home space at 52-54 Tran Binh Trong, the Nho Ban weapons factory, and the street corner space in Da Nang.

These films will help the public easily visualize and understand the struggles and revolutionary activities of our ancestors. Among the 4 abovementioned films, the film about the 1858-1860 battle is made most elaborately with 2 parts of wall projection (3D) and projection on a sand table (Mapping).

In particular, the content presented on the field mainly describes the activities and behaviors of the characters, combining images and comments to express the events. The content presented on the map is images and effects that describe the progression of events.

“Compared to the traditional display model that forces viewers to imagine historical events themselves, the 3D Mapping display method helps viewers witness historical events more intuitively, vividly and emotionally", Mr. Chuan shared.

Rich display content

The new Museum of Da Nang will have a total of six display spaces: a permanent display area, a thematic display area, an open warehouse display area, a time-limited display area, a research and development display area, and an outdoor display area.

In each area, there will be many display sections, corresponding to different themes to maximize the value of documents and artifacts, and strengthen the connection between exhibition content and the social life of the local community.

Mr. Tran Van Chuan said that the building of a new exhibition space required more sources of materials and artifacts in order to ensure the content and content of scientific information in the display.

He, therefore, added that the museum has developed a plan to conduct investigations and surveys to collect information and make lists of artifacts expected to be collected in provinces and cities.

Currently, the Collection - Display and Preservation Department is investigating, surveying and collecting artifacts in the city.

After that, the work will be conducted in localities across the country such as Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Tri in a bid to identify documents and artifacts related to Da Nang, hereby significantly contributing to enriching the display content of the new museum and attracting the public to visit.

According to Director of the Museum of Da Nang Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien, the museum and the construction unit are trying to carry out the assigned tasks, with a focus on the display work to ensure the project stays on schedule.

As planned, the new museum will open its door to the public in March 2025 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Liberation Day of the city (March 29, 1975 - March 29, 2025).

In addition to display work, the museum has directed the specialized department to urgently develop the content of presentations, tour routes and brand recognition, and organize promotional activities and media to the public.

“Displayed documents and artifacts must meet the requirements set out according to the outline and approved construction solutions. Moreover, at the new museum, different forms of transmission will also be integrated into the display to maximize the value of documents and artifacts and increase the value of the experience for visitors," Mr. Thien said.
