Helping university students meet recruitment requirements of future employers

Apart from organising job fairs, many universities and colleges across Da Nang have actively paid special attention to helping their students enhancing their soft skills such as presentation, negotiation, team-working tips with the intention of facilitating them confidently meet the strict recruitment requirements by employers.

Currently, one of the priorities many educational establishments is giving is to faciliate students apply their skills in real life through introducing them to working styles, professional ethics, and necessary start-up abilities.

The Faculty of Business Administration of the Da Nang University of Economics, for instance, has recently held a seminar during which the final-year students were provided with employment consultancy services, as well as tips to pass job interviews successfully and soft skills in the workplace.

Ms Lam Thi Thuy Ha, the co-founder of Viet Nam-based Triip.me, a travel-platform connects travellers with local tour guides, underlined a must-do for undergraduates to learn more about job orientations and opportunities during their academic years. The first task for students is to build their personal brands.

In addition to developing soft skills, it is very essential that students should enhance their knowledge necessary for their future jobs through ensuring good performance in their studies at school.

During his recent talk with the students of the city’s University of Science and Technology, Mr Vo Thanh Son, the Personnel Director of  the Tuan Le Construction Co., Ltd, remarked that, apart from professional skills, there are 3 key recruitment criteria any job applicant must satisfy, namely computer skills, English proficiency, and soft skills.

“You must ensure a high degree of expertise and excel in information technology; otherwise you are most likely to fail to meet recruitment requirements”, Mr Son noted.

Also in his point of views, students who show their active engagement in Youth Union activities, social activities, and volunteer campaigns possess good team-working skills, and interpersonal communication kills.

Dr Nguyen Van Dong, the Head of Student Affairs Department of the University of Science and Technology, said “In addition to maintaining periodic job fairs, my school has always taken the opportunity to appeal for businesses inside and outside the city to organise recruitment fairs right here.

Through such practical and meaningful events, students can access good job opportunities, and they will have the chance to gain an insight into job interview process requirements.
