On the first day of the round, which lasts until 12 May, 12 matches of Groups A and B took place.

The 32 teams come from technical universities and colleges nationwide. After the last round, the strongest team will represent Viet Nam at the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) in Mongolia in August.

The 2019 Robocon promotes the idea of “Sharing the knowledge” initiated by host Mongolia, with its content inspired by the Urtuu system, first innovated by the nomadic Mongolians for exchanging information over long distances, and by Mongolian folk game Shagai, during which players flick animal ankle bones at a target.

Robocon Viet Nam has been held annually by the Viet Nam Television (VTV) since 2002.

The ABU Robocon was founded in 2002 by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union. At the event, robots from participating teams compete to complete a task within a set period of time.

Viet Nam has triumphed at the ABU Robocon seven times. The championships were claimed by Ho Chi Minh City University of Science and Technology in 2002, 2004 and 2006, while Lac Hong University won in 2014, 2017, and 2018, and Hung Yen University of Technology and Education took the title in 2015.
