Many students across the city are now excluded from the normal learning process due to school closures. Alternative approaches, such as online learning at home, are used to maintain undisrupted learning.
For the time being, courses, teaching and learning activities are conducted online by many universities via learning management systems (LMS) such as Moodle, Blackboard, Microsoft Teams or Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs)
On 4 August, the University of Education launched online training for the 1st semester of the 2020-2021 academic year for its full-time students.
According to Ms Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh, the Deputy Head of Training Department at this university, the online training through the Microsoft Teams (MST), a chat-based collaboration platform, is fully applicable to all classes.
Ms Anh said the online training method was successfully carried out in her university with satisfactory results as Da Nang braced for a first wave of Covid-19 infections in April.
In fact, through this training method, both lecturers and students still enjoy flexible connections. Also, they can interact with each other and access unlimited resources. In particular, teachers can create as many lectures as they want on online learning applications.
Over the past two weeks, the University of Science and Technology has introduced strict infection prevention and control measures for Covid-19 in parallel with effectively deployed online teaching so as to keep its training programe on track under the motto ‘quality and sustainability’.
According to Assoc.Prof. Dr Nguyen Hong Hai, the Head of Training Department at this university, in the middle of this week, the university will launch its learning management system named the DUT-LMS, which helps its students study online during the school closure.
Thanks to this, students and lecturers will interact with each other through the supporting tools of MS Team and Office 365.
According to the University of Da Nang, the application of online teaching during coronavirus school closure is hailed as the optimal solution in complying with the city's compulsory social distancing rules and ensuring the smooth running of the curricula in tertiary establishments. With this proactive and flexible approach, distance learning has proved to be effective, not only in managing students during the city's social distancing period but also ensuring “continuing learning during coronavirus school closure”.
