The competition was open to all individuals and organisations nationwide with the aim of finding best solutions to reduce plastic waste in these localities.

Under the contest’s rules, the entrants were required to develop their ideas on promoting the implementation of the 3-R (reduce, reuse and recycle) solutions in Da Nang, Rach Gia and Phu Yen, and on how to turn plastic waste into environmentally-friendly products in the Phu Quoc Island.

Each of the winning entries received 100 million VND in cash, and they will have a chance to receive free mentorship and training courses from experts for one year.

In particular, Da Nang-developed Greenpoints smartphone app allows users to gain ‘points’ by taking their real-world ‘green actions’ for environmental protection. The ‘points’ are then utilised in exchange for environmentally-friendly gifts. This app will be used widely across the city next month.

Besides, Greenpoints also received an additional 100 million VND in cash from the Viet Nam Packaging Recycling Coalition (PRO Viet Nam) to conduct highly practical measures to tackle plastic pollution in Da Nang.
