Recent years have seen many member schools under the University of Da Nang (UDN) go into a high gear for scientific research campaigns, hereby creating even more motivation for students to develop their creative capabilities, whilst paving a broader way for their scientific ideas to turn into fruition for the sake of the community.

During the academic year 2019 - 2020, talented students from the Da Nang University of Economics has generated a combined total of about 400 scientific research works, especially two of them won the national-level awards.

Notably, students Nguyen Ho Phuong Quynh and Truong Thi Thu Huong from the Marketing Faculty of the Da Nang University of Economics last month claimed the top prize in Viet Nam's National Scientific Research Contest 2020 for Students for their project called ‘Understanding the effect of Social Media Advertising Value on Brand Image and Purchase Intention’.

The competition aimed at helping Vietnamese students satisfy their passion for scientific research, and turning their theory they learn in their schools into prototypes for technological solutions to real-world problems.

Quynh said at first she thought scientific research was focused merely on less practical and macro problems. However, through enthusiastic guidance of her supervisors and active support of the university’s managing board, the female student came to realise the fact that scientific research is associated with the benefits and practical values of life as it helps young people develop critical thinking, information research and general analysis skills, all of which are hailed as the most important to students’ must-need factors.

In addition, research writing also prompts students like her to keep patience, logical reasoning and learn how to convey content to readers in a most effective manner. There is no denying these advantages nurture Quynh’ passion for scientific research day by day.

Not less bustling than the University of Economics, the scientific research sprit has grown strongly at the University of Science and Technology with 269 scientific research projects initiated and developed by a total of 657 students. Many of which have been applauded by domestic experts for their high practicability, hereby meeting the requirements of start-up, production, energy saving and technological innovation activities.

It is worth hailing that, during the first coronavirus wave hitting the city in late March, talented lecturers and students from this tertiary establishment jointly made the debut of scientific products.

Noticeable amongst them is the automatic disinfectant hand washing machine which features the application of the antiseptic properties of UV (ultraviolet) rays), mainly used to kill bacteria in cooked food and water.

Meanwhile, some lecturers from the Mechanics created a robot to deliver food, medicines and other necessary items to suspected coronavirus patients in hospital, maximum loading capacity of 100kg.

The robot, which looks like a hospital cart and it can be cleaned and disinfected because it is made of 3-mm thick stainless-steel, is controlled by human hands with an omnidirectional adjustment button, whilst the movement speed is totally controlled by users.

Last, but not least, a group of five talented students from the university recently won the top prize in the ‘Youth Innovative Ideas for an Ocean without Plastic’ programme for their ‘Biya Robot’, which is able to welcome and talk to visitors, as well as remind them to appropriately classify waste for the sake of the marine environment.

Following the great success of the 2019 - 2020 school year in terms of scientific research, the UDN has launched its Scientific Research Contest for Students over the 2020 - 2021 academic year.

The awards are expected to be given out to best entries in such categories as natural science, humanities and social sciences, medical and pharmaceutical sciences.
