An airport guide robot, called iRobt, is being trialled at a domestic passenger terminal in Da Nang Airport.

The autonomous robot has been programmed to “interact with passengers” with a touchscreen in both English and Vietnamese languages. It is able to answer passengers’ questions about their flights, airport map, eateries, cafes, shops, a list of items that are not allowed to be carried on board, and other flight safety rules.

Created by the Centre for Electricity and Electronics (CEE) under the Da Nang-based Duy Tan University based on recommendations from Da Nang Airport, iRobt has significantly contributed to improving the service quality of the airport, and reducing pressure for airport ground staff. In addition, the use of the robot can help to reduce interpersonal interaction between air passengers and airport ground staff, thereby limiting the risk of transmission of the virus in light of the complicated developments of the coronavirus pandemic.

Currently, the CEE is teaming up with the Da Nang International Airport to perfect iRobt in order to put the product into official operation at Da Nang Airport soon with the aim of providing better services for passengers.
