According to Mr Ngo Tuan Anh, Secretary of the Youth Union organisation of Da Nang University of Architecture, as soon as the coronavirus breakout, this agency asked for permission from the university’s managing board to set up a volunteer team consisting of students with missions of joining COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control activities, in tandem with timely assisting needy students, especially immigrant students living far away from home.

Since the beginning of 2021, the volunteer team has hand-delivered 425 gifts containing essential food to students in need. In addition, the school’s Youth Union organisation partnered with Thien Tam Club to give 74 gifts to students from the member universities of the University of Da Nang (UD). Thanks to these activities, all students of the University of Architecture are supported in a timely manner to maintain their academic missions.

In particular, in March 2021, Dinh Thi Ngoc Tram, a student at Da Nang Vocational Tourism College, was awarded VND 50 million by the municipal chapter of the Vietnamese Student’s Association to help her family renovate their house. "Being in a spacious house, sometimes I still can't believe this is true," Tram shared emotionally.

According to Mr Le Cong Hung, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Youth Union, the outbreak of COVID-19 has seen high responsibilities of students to the community and friends through their enthusiasm in volunteer activities. Through these activities, over 2,500 gifts were timely delivered to needy students, helping them stabilize lives and ensure their studies.

With the spirit of ‘No one is left behind’, the Youth Union organisation of Da Nang University of Architecture, University of Economics- UD and Da Nang College of Economics- Planning successfully organized the program ‘Zero-VND Food Supermarket’, helping thousands of students access essential food right at the most difficult time.

In a similar vein, the Youth Union organisations of University of Science and Technology, University of Education (UD), Dong A University, Danang University of Physical Education and Sports, and more, established quick response teams to promptly approach and distribute thousands of gifts for students facing difficulties due to lack of food source.

Tran Thi Hong, a student at the University of Economics (UD) really appreciated the support of the Youth Union during tough days. In addition, thanks to the encouragement of her friends, she boldly signed up to join the school's volunteer team fighting against COVID-19. For this young girl, this has been a unique ‘semester’ with a valuable experience of sharing, taking care of others as well as raising her responsibilities to the community.

Similarly, Chantana Soulivone, along with other 160 Laotian students of the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Education (UD), was very excited with in-kind support and sharing from the municipal chapter of the Vietnamese Student’s Association and school’s Youth Union organisation during challenging days living far away from home amid COVID-19.

For the time being, the municipal Student’s Association, in partnership with Youth Union organizations at universities and colleges, has been accompanying needy students through many creative and practical support programmes. At the same time, they have also called for students to participate in volunteer activities for the sake of the community. Thereby, they can express their gratitude to the Da Nang city as well as the sponsors who have shared with the community during this tough time, as well as contributing their small strength in the battle fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.
