Digital transformation serves new driving force for Da Nang development
In 2021, despite the complicated developments of COVID-19, the growth targets of Da Nang's information and communications industry still achieved good results.
The growth rate of the added value of the whole industry is estimated at 10.47% as compared to 2020, contributing 1.26 percentage points to the overall growth rate of Da Nang’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in the year.
The industry contributed 8.23% to the city’s GRDP in the year, just after the commerce industry at 14.6% and the transportation industry at 8.6%.
Notably, the municipal Department of Information and Communications effectively and promptly deployed more than 20 tech-apps in support of the city in its fight against COVID-19.
Last year, the city’s information and communications industry earned nearly VND31.3 trillion (US$1.38 billion) in revenue last year, of which software exports hit US$ 98.5 million.
The information was released by the municipal Department of Information and Technology at its Thursday meeting to review its performance last year and identify new tasks for 2022.
In 2022, the city’s information and communication industry targets to achieve more than VND33,100 billion in revenue, whilst the software export turnover will reach US$110 million.
In his remarks at the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Tran Phuoc Son stressed the need to accelerate digital transformation, creating a new driving force for the city’s development.
Vice Chairman Son urged the municipal Department of Information and Communications to effectively implement projects to build Da Nang into a smarter city, and to boost digital transformation by 2025, with a vision towards 2030, as well as develop a plan to promote the development of digital technology businesses in Da Nang for the 2021-2025 period.
“In addition, the focus should be on accelerating the construction progress of key projects in the 2021-2025 period, and putting the Software Park No. 2 into operation in 2022”, added he.
Mr Son emphasised that it was necessary to mobilize more resources to develop digital and information technology infrastructure, and appeal for more strategic domestic and foreign enterprises to invest into Da Nang.
Within the framework of the meeting, the municipal Department of Information and Communications signed a cooperation agreement on boosting digital transformation with the Viet Nam-Korea Information Technology (IT) and Communications University and the municipal Young Entrepreneur' Association.
