The results of the Viet Nam round of the 51st edition of the International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People has been publicly released.

Accordingly, Nguyen Thai An Tam, a eighth-grader at the Nguyen Hue Secondary School, Hai Chau District, Da Nang won a second prize at the national-level competition.

Mai Dac Vong, a tenth-grader at Da Nang-based Le Quy High School for the Gifted received the ‘promising pen’ prize.

The second prize in the collective category went to the aforementioned Nguyen Hue Secondary School.

Organised by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the international competition tasks students to ‘write a letter to an influential person about why and how to take action on climate change’.

Since 1971, the UPU has encouraged young writers aged 9-15 to write letters on a given theme to win exciting prizes.

All of our participating member countries have consistently encouraged youth to develop their literacy skills and to focus on a particular subject. The competition is an excellent means of promoting literacy among youth and contributes to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

All entries must be submitted through the national Post. Each country chooses a national winner and submits them as the country entry to the UPU international competition.

An international jury complied by the International Bureau judges the letters and selects the overall winners and candidates that merit a special mention.
