Nguyen Minh Thu, the leader of Blue Dreams team said that the Smart Library Management System project uses the Internet of Things (IoT) and ultraviolet (UV) light technologies. The IoT-based Smart Library Management System will allow implementing an online library supply chain while borrowed and returned materials will be disinfected with UV light.
The new development relates to a self-service book-borrowing system that will be placed at libraries. The IoT-based Smart Library Management System will help manage, track, and store information related on borrowing books, their borrowers, book titles, and related data as these information is sent to the cloud, thereby helping library users and librarians access information from anywhere at any time on any device.
The intelligent library management system operates automatically and stably that allows library users register online to borrow books from the library and choose to have borrowed items delivered to their door.
“I often go to the school library as I love reading books. However, the procedures for borrowing and returning books are quite time-consuming. Therefore, the creation of the Smart Library Management System will help shift the conventional libraries from manual operations to automated integrated management system, as well as help librarians manage important tasks such as appointments, lending, reserving, and returning, and facilitate users’ access to library resources and services," Nguyen Minh Thu said. .
The intelligent library management system includes an Online Library Management System where students/users can borrow books and return them in addition to a Self-service Borrowing and Returning Machine. Specifically, the Self-service Borrowing and Returning Machine is designed with a main board and functional modules. Each module performs a separate function such as face recognition, scanning barcodes on the back of books, receiving input/output signals, displaying students/ users’ information, book borrowing period, controlling to put books in and out at the right position. Students can use book borrowing and returning based on facial recognition where the borrower or returners and the book to be borrowed or returned are identified automatically. Users’ choice of “borrow” or “return” depends on which direction is more important to them.
Le Tuan Tu, a member of the Blue Dreams team, said that the intelligent library management system based on the IoT technology allows students or users to register for borrowing and return books at home.
“The smart library management system used by Nguyen Khuyen High School has received a lot of positive feedbacks from its students as it makes the procedures for borrowing and returning books faster. After returning from Solve for Tomorrow 2022, we alrready designed a conveyor system that is easy to integrate into the smart library management system to organize books. In addition, a feature was added to the Online Library Management System to honour the top 10 readers and the top 10 books in an effort to create a reading culture in the school,”, Tu said.
Mr. Luong Hai Dang, Director of Communications and External Relations of Samsung Vina Electronics Co Ltd (SAVINA), a member of the Solve For Tomorrow 2022’s Jury, praised the Smart Library Management System project developed by Da Nang students for its good idea and its complex. In addition, the results of this contest contribute to promoting the movement of digital research and learning, as well as improving the quality of education in the era of industrial revolution 4.0.
